Neil Robertson
began his 2003-04 Main Tour season quietly, but gradually
improved his performances over the course of the
season.
After early exits from the LG Cup and British Open,
Neil reached the 4th round of qualifying for the
UK Championship. He then progressed through all qualifying
rounds of the European Open, and won the qualifying
tournament for The Masters. Neil made his television
debut at the Masters finals; a baptism of fire against
Jimmy "The Whirlwind" White in Wembley.
Then snooker history was created in Malta at the
European Open in March 2004 as Neil and fellow Australian
Quinten Hann reached the quarter-finals, the first
time two Australians have reached this stage of a
ranking event.
Neil then reached the 5th round of qualifying for
the Embassy World Championship, and towards the end
of the season he qualified for the finals of the
Players Championship, where he reached the 2nd round.
Having started the season unranked, Neil ended the
season at 68 on the official 2 year list. This ensured
his qualification for the subsequent Main Tour season,
despite its reduction in size to 96 players.
Neil then set his sights on entering the world top
32 by the end of the 2004/2005 season.
